Science
Science is where the new is born — through hypothesis, scepticism, mathematics, and modelling. Logic is where the new is not born, but merely dressed.
Greek skepsis (σκέψις — "a looking into") means inquiry, examination; hence the Latin scepticus — one who examines critically. Hypothesis (ὑπόθεσις), in Ptolemy's time, meant not a guess but a working model, a "system of explanations." Mathematikē (μαθηματικός, from μάθημα — "that which is learned," "knowledge") originally meant science as a whole.
About
We are not an organisation. We are not a company. We are a part of an intellectual alliance scattered across time and space — united not by institution, but by a shared epistemological disposition.
Science is something anyone can and should do, regardless of whether they belong to the academy. If you publish your preprints on Zenodo, and our view of science is one you recognise as your own — we invite you to join our community: zenodo.org/communities/sceptic-ratio.
In time, we intend to open our own preprint platform.
Curation & Admission Policy
We do not accept "papers" that serve as bureaucratic decoration or AI-generated slop. To be admitted to this hub, your submission must comply with the following constructive rules.
1. The Model Must Work
Your research cannot be purely theoretical. It must be a true ὑπόθεσις — a working model, a system of description, or an engineering prototype. Not a guess. Not a "concept." Something you can put on the table and have examined: a kinematic scheme, a physiological preparation, a behavioural model, a numerical simulation, a physical specimen. The form is yours to choose. The substance is the same: the model exists and works.
2. The Thomson Protocol (Mandatory)
Uploading a PDF is not enough. To prevent AI pollution, every submission is held in a restricted queue. Admission requires a direct, personal discussion — via Signal or Threema — with the curator, to verify your critical thinking (σκέψις) and to ensure you understand the subject of your work deeply: every part of it, not merely the conclusion.
3. Artefact Verification
Where your work involves software, computer architecture, or computational methods, provide a live repository link (Sourcehut, GitHub, GitLab) with clear build instructions. For all other disciplines, provide the artefact that proves the model exists: a schematic, a protocol, a photograph of the specimen, a dataset, a calculation.
On Scholasticism
We do not accept "science" that is merely scholasticism in a new coat. The lawyers of science prove what is not, and disprove what is, by logic, within a system that justifies itself. The theologians of science build syllogisms about received truths and call it research. Both work with what is already known. They dress it. They do not give birth to it.
Bring a model, and we will talk. Bring a "justification," and we will walk past.
Contact
The model speaks. Scholasticism clears off.
If you are ready to demonstrate your model, contact the curator directly after submitting your preprint request.
